Pilates Beginner Matwork Classes / Beginner Workshops

are an introduction to Body Control Pilates for new clients and cover all the basic principles of Pilates including alignment, breathing, core stability and natural movement patterns. These classes and workshops are also suitable for those with specific issues, for example osteoporosis, recovering from injury or operations, those advised to take up remedial exercise or those wishing to refresh their knowledge after a period of absence. New clients unable to attend beginner classes are required to attend at least one private assessment, prior to joining intermediate classes.

Pilates Matwork Group Classes

Pilates exercises have a natural progression which makes them ideal for all levels of fitness and the small numbers in the classes ensure that all clients are given individual attention and can progress at their own pace. Classes concentrate on natural alignment and stability with exercises, both freestanding and mat-based to create strength and flexibility. All equipment including mats, is provided by Taw Valley Pilates. Clothing should be comfortable and non-restrictive. Group classes have a maximum of 10 - 12 clients, are one hour in length and run weekly. Courses are run during school term times, so can be between five and eight weeks long. Classes are payable in advance for the full course. Our policy is that refunds are not given for missed classes, however numbers permitting and with notice, you are welcome to make this up at another time on the same course. Clients are asked to pay at the end of each group of classes to keep their place on the following course.

Progression

Is optional and unlimited:

Intermediate level includes a variety of different, challenging exercises

Advanced level, increasing knowledge and performing the classical repertoire, usually for those who have been attending Body Control Pilates sessions for several years.

Topic Specific Pilates Workshops

are for those who wish to increase their knowledge around certain medical conditions

or for performance. An idea of our Workshops:

Pilates "Healthy Backs" Classes and Back4Good® Workshops

Lauren is fully qualified to run “Healthy Backs” Classes under unique "Back4Good®” branding. These unique classes and two hour workshops are specifically designed for those with persistent back problems who wish to learn more about the prevention of acute or chronic low back pain. These classes run in accordance with NHS “NICE” guidelines and are available through the NHS with GP referral. They are held as educational sessions and are taught by Lauren, a Level 4 Specialist Exercise Instructor in Low Back Pain. They concentrate on body awareness, alignment and segmental control of the spine.

Duo Classes

Rather than wait for beginner class / workshop dates, it is possible to put your name on the waiting list for a Duo class with a preference on date and time of class to suit you. When someone on the waiting list matches your class preference, the duo class will  take place.

Private Tuition

Private matwork tuition is available by appointment, at our Equipment Studio. The one hour Private session begins by covering the unique principles of Pilates, and is then designed to suit individual ability and requirements. Private tuition is payable in advance and refunds are given only with 24 hours notice of a cancellation.
